We've probably all had an idea or built an app that touches the edge of App Store rules. Sometimes that's because the rules aren't clear while other times we just like the idea so much we think we can figure out a way to get it past the app review team. This post tells the story of Phoneys, an ingenious iMessage app that was originally approved for sale but quickly ran into trouble with Apple.
Side note: I have a fake caller app that was rejected several times for looking too much like an iPhone call screen. That was kinda the point, but I had to conform to Apple's wishes and modified the app enough for approval. It has gained quite a bit of success in spite of this, but I get support emails every day asking me why the app doesn't look like Apple's call screen!
